~ Lavender Smith
I've spent decades averting my eyes when I look in the mirror. Those times I looked, really looked, I wasn't happy with what I saw. I don't curve in all the places womxn are supposed to curve. I have a big round belly, always have. It's my natural state.
In our culture, not conforming to the commonly accepted standards of beauty is not acceptable. And induces life-long shame.
But I know you know that already.
Womxn (well, okay, girls) are indoctrinated with negative messaging: Take up LESS space. Be QUIET. Be NICE. GIVE. Put others FIRST. So much of this causes us to work actively to diminish ourselves. It’s a culture of feminine self-harming. Diet after diet after diet. Silencing ourselves. Putting ourselves down. Obsessing about our size and shape. Comparing ourselves to others to the point of severe depression, anxiety, and self-hate.
How do we even begin to unlearn these decades of indoctrination?
How do we end these wounding belief systems?
How do we even begin to unravel all of this?
And where does the transformation begin?
TLDR: I think it begins with creativity.
My relationship with my body has been one of tolerance. And I don't mean that in a good way. Tolerance, surrender, acquiescence. All of those feelings of waving the white flag. "Ok, I give up. This is me." But all that pulls me down.
Rather than judgment, criticism, denial, shame, and sadness, I want to EMBRACE ME. I want to LOVE my body. I want to find comfort in my own flesh. I want to feel joy and passion, delight and bliss…about MY BODY.
Wow. How revolutionary, right?
Lots of people talk about self-compassion.
Frankly, I'm not really interested in self-compassion.
What I really want is self-PASSION!
The Body Passion Project profoundly changed the way I perceive my body by helping me confront the reasons for my feelings of brokenness and unworthiness, and examine them to see if they are, or ever were, useful. I was able to let the bulk of them go as excess, unnecessary baggage, and to embrace a new, positive set of feelings about myself.
~ Karen L.
Wouldn't it be amazing to feel full-on pleasure and joy every time you looked at yourself in the mirror? What would change in your life if you felt that way?
10 weeks of transformative creativity
Wednesday evenings in Unfold Studio
September 18 ~ November 20
Limited to just 8 seats. Put your deposit down today!
I don't know many womxn who fully love their bodies. I don't know many womxn who accept their bodies without judgment.
And that, my friends, is just a tragedy.
We are bombarded with images our whole lives of womxn who are worthy only when they are (fill in the blank) _____________ [thinner, sexier, have bigger breasts, less hairy, younger, blonder, curvier, better mothers, more active, and on and on].
I want to help you deal with these same conversations in your head. I want to help you get through that morass and find a way into a new relationship with your body.
A relationship of Body Passion.
The way we'll do it?
Art journaling, of course
...and other creative endeavors...intimate womxn's community...telling your story...being seen...being witnessed...being heard.
The best way for me to work through these kinds of stories, emotions and thoughts is with art journaling. In my art journal I can follow my intuition, pulling out the words and images, the texture of my emotional landscape to really expose my heart.
Color + line + imagery + your story = TRANSFORMATION
It’s that simple.
Creativity is the key to the emotional excavation that happens within.
And that’s what I’m going to guide you through.
Believe me, it works like nothing else you’ve tried before.
Rest assured that Susie has built her programs with your well-being and safety in mind. The environment is non-judgmental and open. You can explore ANYthing and EVERYthing!
~ Jennifer Martin
10 weeks of connecting IN PERSON (at Unfold Studio) on the topic of our love/hate relationship with our bodies.
Whether you're battling decades of shame over weight issues; whether your heart pangs when you think of the years you tried to get pregnant and couldn't
Whether you left your body due to mental, physical or sexual abuse or trauma
Whether you are still surprised when you see your reflection and the woman with wrinkles looking back at you doesn't feel like the 16 year old inside you
Whether you are a woman coming out of the closet late in life, just now acknowledging her sexual identity, and rejecting decades of self-repression and self-gaslighting
Whether you are struggling with chronic pain, chronic insomnia, or hormone fluctuations and menopause
then this is for you.
This is for you.
This is for YOU.
We will dive deep.
We will examine our own scripts, the words we repeat over and over which get in the way of actually seeing ourselves without judgment.
We will share openly with each other and support each other in transforming our view of ourselves...our hearts, our skins, our wrinkles, and muscles, our bones that stick out, and our rolls of fat.
We'll explore the parts that bring us the most heart pain (aka: shame).
And we’ll find the parts of ourselves that we love LOVE LOVE.
We'll push the edges and try on, in a safe environment, the concepts of self-love, self-acceptance, and pride.

I’m so grateful to have had The Body Passion Project during pregnancy because I spent the first week postpartum LOVING my saggy, slowly deflating belly! That was a first! And I’m still (mostly) loving my body as it morphs back towards baseline.
~ Rachel F.
I felt safe and supported in my creative process; I always knew I could call on you if needed.
~ Aimee Levine Dickman
I have never felt more accepted, more encouraged, and more peaceful than I did doing the work of this class. I am grateful beyond words for Susie and her work.
~ Henni Hinders
In The Body Passion Project I made a connection with other women about body image, on a higher level than “magazines are to blame.”
Susie’s curriculum effectively guided me on a journey out of self-loathing towards an authentic embrace of my body.
In The Body Passion Project you'll have the opportunity to face yourself and transform your body story.
End the cycle of violence you’ve continued to inflict on yourself.
You'll use creativity as your language of self-expression and healing.
You'll be surrounded and held. You'll be in a circle of womxn who have all come together to do this work, to witness you, to hold space for you...
Who am I?
I’m Susie Stonefield Miller, midwife to your creative spirit. I’m a person-centered expressive arts facilitator, an inspired life guide, an artist, and a teacher, passionate about:
introducing you to the shy inner artist who’s lived inside you your whole life, longing to come out
guiding you on a journey to self-love and transformation through creative expression
creating loving and supportive circles of womxn and other tender-hearted folk through clear and gentle boundaries and expectations
teaching online and in person
I’m all about the Deep Dive. To me, creative expression is the best way to transformation and we don’t get there by floating on the surface making pretty pictures. I mean that. This is not about your Instagram feed. This is about digging into your TRUTH with creativity. This is what I’m passionate about.
And being person-centered means I am not the one with all the information about what you need. It means I trust you to know what’s best for your journey. I’ll be honest and clear and supportive. I will walk alongside you as you go, but I’m not the one who can tell you, “Go here. Do this. Do that.” I’m not your boss. But, if you need a really grounded guide, I’m totally your girl.
And I’ll hold your hand all the way.
Susie has a really special gift. Her presence is almost more powerful than anything. She let’s you be vulnerable and prompts you with some encouraging words to calm your inner critic.
~ Rochelle Porzio

Q: Is this course online or in the studio?
A: This course is live and in person at Unfold Your Creative Spirit Studio in Cotati, California. (Cotati is just one hour north of the Bay Area, in the heart of Sonoma County.)
Q: Is this course only for womxn? And why?
A: Yes, the Body Passion Project is only for womxn and is open to all womxn, including trans womxn, womxn of all races and all ages. The reason for that is that the content covered deals specifically with the messages and experiences of womxn in our patriarchal society. The nature of our stories is deeply personal. In order to share we need to have a space that is completely safe and sacred. That is the power of gathering in womxn only spaces. It’s not that I believe men or non-binary folk have no issues with their body image. But this course is not designed for them.
Q: What does the x in womxn mean?
A: From the Urban Dictionary: Womxn is a spelling of "women" that is a more inclusive, progressive term that not only sheds light on the prejudice, discrimination, and institutional barriers womxn have faced, but to also show that womxn are not the extension of men (as hinted by the classic Bible story of Adam and Eve) but their own free and separate entities. More intersectional than womyn because it includes trans-women and women of color.
Q: How often do we meet?
A: We meet every Wednesday night (Sept. 18 thru Nov. 20) from 6:30 - 9:30pm. The course is 10 weeks of material, but there is one week when we will not meet due to the Jewish High Holy Days (Unfold Studio is located inside Congregation Ner Shalom and Susie is an active member and part of the music leadership team).
Q: What is included?
A: All art supplies except for your art journals. You may want to get a fresh one to do the work for this course. Or you can continue to work in the ones you already have.
Q: What if I can’t make a class?
A: No problem. You’ll receive any materials in written form, as well as art journal prompts and other goodies that you might have missed. And you can work on your pages at home, too.
Q: Is this course only for artists?
A: Absolutely not! Everything taught at Unfold Studio is for anyone who is desiring a creative outlet for their self-expression. There is no skill required. You have everything you need!
Q: How does the course work?
A: Every Monday you’ll receive an email in your inbox with something to read and watch from Susie. It’ll be like a blog post and a short video. This will set the stage for when we meet on Wednesday to do our work. You will have time to ruminate on the topic at hand for the week. You’ll have time to gather images or materials you might want to bring with you to class. On Wednesday, we’ll meet in the studio. We’ll discuss the topic and then dive into our work. We might also dip into some other expressive arts activities such as movement, sound, writing, and play. At the end of each Wednesday night, we’ll have a sharing circle.
Q: I've never art journaled before but this really speaks to me. Can I do this?
A: You certainly can, because this course is about the transformative process of creativity being the avenue to healing. It’s not about making a work of art. There are lots of art courses out there that will help you create ART. But this one is not that. (You are encouraged to to have come at least once to one of Susie’s weekly art journaling classes to have an introduction. Helpful, but not required. And, if you register by July 31st you’ll receive a free art journaling studio class as well!)
Q: What if I'm not happy with the course? Can I get a refund?
A: If you cancel once the class begins or within one week of the start of class, there are no refunds. If you cancel within one month of the start, you’ll receive a 50% refund. If you cancel before that time, you’ll receive an 80% refund.
